Volta Seca was a cangaceiro of the Lampião band that acted in the Brazilian Northeast around the 1920s and 1930s. It was a group of bandits who, despite being bandits, stole from the rich and distributed to the poor, so Lampião, their leader, became known as Robin Hood of the backlands.

This song is one of the songs of cangaço, sung by the cangaceiros and also composed by them. The letter reports an order to Maria Bonita, Lampião's wife, to get up and make breakfast because the day was already dawning and the police were already standing.
