Enrique Santos Discépolo (Buenos Aires, 27 de marzo de 1901 - Buenos Aires, 23 de diciembre de 1951) fue un compositor, músico, dramaturgo y cineasta argentino. También era conocido como Discepolín.

La canción fue originalmente compuesta durante la Década Infame a la que denuncia en sus letras. A partir de 1943 en el marco de una campaña iniciada por el gobierno militar que obligó a suprimir el lenguaje lunfardo, como así también cualquier referencia a la embriaguez o expresiones que en forma arbitraria eran consideradas inmorales o negativas para el idioma o para el país, incluyó al tango Cambalache dentro de los censurados para su difusión radiofónica.

Enrique Santos Discépolo (Discepolín) (27 March 1901 – 23 December 1951) was an Argentine tango and milonga musician and composer, author of famous tangos such as "Cambalache" and many others performed by several of the most important singers of his time, amongst them notably Carlos Gardel. He was also a film actor, director and screenwriter.

The song was originally composed during the Infamous Decade to which it denounces in its lyrics. As of 1943 within the framework of a campaign initiated by the military government that forced the suppression of lunfardo language, as well as any reference to drunkenness or expressions that were arbitrarily considered immoral or negative for the language or for the country, It included the Cambalache tango within the censored for its radio broadcast.
