The Chacarera (or farmer) is a dance and music that originated in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Its a couple's dance but each dancer is independent of other one and they do not touch each other.Women usually wear leather shoes with medium heels and brightly-colored, flowing dresses. They often wear their hair in one or two braids. Men usually wear boots (with or without spurs), baggy pants, shirts of any color, jackets, hats, and silk scarves tied at the neck. Accessories include a gun holster and knife at the waist. It is a genre of folk music that, for many Argentines, serves as a rural counterpart to the cosmopolitan imagery of the Tango.
